In 1986, in spite of some esthetic modifications, the sales of Alliance are blown, Renault lost this year 700 millons dollars, only the Jeep branch goes well, due to the success of the Cherokee and Comanche sales. Renault US thinks of the expension of its range. The Alpine division in France works on the Americanization of the sports model, 30 million of dollars were invested for the homologuation of the car, only 21 models were produced, none were sold. The Espace model which was claimed by AMC never reach to the end of the homologuation. Renault also invests in a new factory in Bramalea Canada, to build the Premier, American version of R25 (in reality, the R21 was used as a basis for this model), only 200 models leaved the plant with the rhombus on the grill. The Medallion, the equivalent of European R21, was produced in Europe, its diffusion was very confidential. The colossal losses of Renault in Europe will put a term at the American adventure. AMC is resold precipitately in Chrysler on March 2, 1987, without a return on investment. Renault is however the only French manufacturer to have invested massively to be established in the United States. The came back of the rhombus in US in envisaged in 2010, it will be with the help of his partner Nissan (Nissan is controled by Renault since 1999).
